Allergy Cooking with Ease: The No Wheat, Milk, Eggs, Corn, and Soy Cookbook Review

My daughter is allergic to many foods including dairy, soy, wheat, gluten, tomatoes, all nuts, seafood, sugar, and many others. This book is perfect for her needs! I have only tried two recipes but I made a quinoa pizza dough with a pesto sauce and goat cheese and she loved it! I do have to be careful and make some substitutions here and there but I appreciate all the choices the book has to offer. For example, I had to leave the garlic out of the pesto and substitute sunflower seeds for pine nuts. I still appreciate the base recipes that this book offers and am excited to get my own copy. I am borrowing the one I have now but after one complete dinner I am sold! This is the best allergy book I have found so far. Thank you to the author!

The Inflammation Syndrome: The Complete Nutritional Program to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Allergies, and Asthma Review

If you really want to read a book by a scientist that revolutionized the field of nutrition, don't read this; read "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell. It will make your head spin. The 30-year study conducted by international researchers more than makes the case against animal protein and milk. Nowhere does Challem's book even mention studies about the increased incidence of Type 1 diabetes among children who drink milk.
I wouldn't waste time reading Challem's book. It's outdated and based on shady science.

One Of The Gang: Nurturing the Souls of Children with Food Allergies Review

My son is 6, with multiple food allergies, and he LOVES this book! You can tell that it makes him feel better about having allergies when he's reading it with me. It's very well-written, matter of fact, and reassuring for kids and the pictures are wonderful to see too.
We have a bunch of allergy books geared towards kids, and if your child is struggling emotionally at all with having allergies, this is the best book I've come across so far! I highly recommend it!

Sinus Relief Now: The Ground-Breaking 5-Step Program for Sinus, Allergy, and AsthmaSufferers Review

I consider myself blessed to have found this wonderful book. The Dr is a true humanitarian to write so candidly about CAID and how other doctors should be approaching your pain and chronic illness. I'm going to personally thank him by email and follow his recommendations. If his suggestions don't work then I'm going to make an appt to see him at his place of work. Most doctors are not doing their job out there and they are not taking the ethical stand to do no harm to the patient. There are a lot of reasons why this is so but with out getting into too much, if you find a good one then you don't want to let him go. I praise this Dr for writing this book for all of us sinus sufferers and plan on recommending it to everyone that I know. Highly recommended. He really wants you to get better.

Healthier Without Wheat: A New Understanding of Wheat Allergies, Celiac Disease, and Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance. Review

Dr. Wangen's book explains a host of reasons why one should be eating gluten free. As a nationally recognized authority in the area of gluten-intolerance, he is qualified to explain these different reasons. Everything in this book is helpful to those of us searching for more answers.
I have been a diagnosed celiac for almost 12 years now. When I was diagnosed with celiac disease and started the gluten-free diet I had no idea there would be many members of our support group who did not have a medical diagnosis of celiac disease. As the membership chair of our local support group, and as a GF Bed and Breakfast owner, I find that the majority of people I talk to have chosen to eat GF for many various reasons. Most of our guests have multiple dietary restrictions and are still searching for answers about new dietary problems that have come up.
We keep a copy of Healthier Without Wheat in the bookcase of our B&B suite for this reason. It is interesting to talk with guests about which chapters got their attention. I highly recommend this book if you are still looking for answers about gluten intolerance.

Pet Allergies Review

This book is an excellent reference book if you have a pet with allergies. The information is not only current and forward-thinking, but easy to understand as well. It actually explains why the problem exists and what to do about it. It also supplies a guide to Veterinarians regarding the proper testing and treatment of the animal. I am purchasing 4 more copies to give to several vets in my area. I highly recommend it!

The Allergy Solution for Dogs: Natural and Conventional Therapies to Ease Discomfort and Enhance Your Dog's Quality of Life (The Natural Vet) Review

I was looking for a book that would help SOLVE my problems with dogs and allergies - this book just gives examples of what to look for (is it or is it not allergies) and suggests seeing the vet. Been there, done that - was looking for more creative ideas than seeing the vet and putting them on steroids (the standard prescription). I will keep looking for something to resolve my dogs' allergies and skin issues

Hidden Food Allergies: The Essential Guide to Uncovering Hidden Food Allergies-and Achieving Permanent Relief Review

This book is a decent starting point for one who wants to know the basics about delayed food allergies. It's a very quick read with good lists of common allergens and some scientific background on the condition. What I don't like is that the author continuously pushes some controversial blood tests instead of the elimination diet, which is the gold standard (and an inexpensive one at that) for uncovering food allergies. Also, the book isn't very professional looking. It appears to be something that the authors self-published. If you really want to know about food allergies, "Food Allergies and Food Intolerance" is a better option. It covers the subject much more extensively and describes how to do an elimination diet.
I went on an elimination diet after reading this and have so far found that I am allergic to milk, corn, and soy. By avoiding those allergens, I have easily lost 20 lbs (and 2 inches off my waist), I have much more energy, my mood is significantly better, my knees don't continually ache anymore, my food cravings and constant hunger are gone, and my bladder irritation has resolved. In short, I feel better than I have ever felt. Although not everyone will see results like this, I think anyone with nagging chronic health problems should give the elimination diet a try, as it can't hurt, and the only real cost is having to cook just about every meal for a few weeks, which I consider a trivial cost compared to the gains I have seen.

Pediatric Allergy: Principles and Practice (Leung, Pediatric Allergy) Review

This is by far the best reference book I have seen in the Field of Allergy/Asthma/Immunology. The chapters are well written (I wish "Middleton's Allergy Principle and Practice" was this well written) and complete. Charts are clear. There is a small picture section in the front which as some nice clear pictures (although some a a little small)--Perhaps the authors can expand this section with the next edition, which I'll eagerly purchase. Let's hope someone can come out with a similar quality book for the adult population.

Food Allergy Cookbook Review

This book suggests how to successfully substitute products according to your specific allergies. The recipes in the book are easy and delicious, but the information in the book on what to substitute when really opens the doors to making your old favorite recipes allergy free. This book really covered it all for me. I highly recommend it!

The Princess and the Peanut Allergy Review

The book analagizes a tiny bit of peanut to a little tiny pea under a princesses bed in "the princess in the pea"-- helps kids to understand that even a tiny little bit can hurt. Also addresses some social problems kids might have regarding allergies. Really a sweet story that my two year old non-allergic girl loves even more than my four year old with allergies. I think it would be great for older children as well.
